Lakeshore Records is set to release Lawmen: Bass Reeves—Original Series Soundtrack digitally on November 10 with music by Chanda Dancy (Oscar short- listed score Devotion). The poignant orchestral score creates a thrilling and emotional backdrop to the highly anticipated series, the latest in producer Taylor Sheridan’s growing stable of series on Paramount+. The anthology series starring Executive Producer David Oyelowo, Lauren E. Banks, Demi Singleton, Forrest Goodluck, Barry Pepper, Donald Sutherland and Dennis Quaid is now streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S. and all Paramount+ international markets.

Revealing the untold story of the most legendary lawman in the Old West, LAWMEN: BASS REEVES
follows the journey of Reeves (Oyelowo) and his rise from enslavement to law enforcement as the first
Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi. Despite arresting over 3,000 outlaws during the course of his
career, the weight of the badge was heavy, and he wrestled with its moral and spiritual cost to his
beloved family. LAWMEN: BASS REEVES is an all-new, standalone anthology series and future iterations
will follow other iconic lawmen and outlaws who have impacted history.

Notes Dancy:
“The story of Bass Reeves is an epic tale of a great American hero of justice that is finally getting told far
and wide. He was a bright and shining light in a dark and difficult time, and his legacy gives us hope and
inspiration to be a light ourselves. In creating the score for Lawmen: Bass Reeves, I was inspired by this
very sense of hope and light. With grand, sweeping melodies, syncopated rhythms and tactile orchestral
colors, the score tells the story of Bass’s journey from the pain of enslavement to becoming what Taylor
Sheridan himself described to me during our first meeting: ‘A Light In No Man’s Land.’”

  1. Hello Chanda, my family and I have been watching Lawmen: Bass Reeves, we absolutely love the music, thank you. This is one of the best movies we have seen. We always have ready and heard about the great Bass Reeves. I would recommend that everyone watch this movie. It is grand to see.

  2. A great musical score tells the story without the film, establishes the characters and their qualities in harmony and melody. This score goes above and beyond that. I am certainly hoping piano transcriptions will become available for this score.

  3. Is there any chance the Bass Reeves soundtrack will be pressed and released on vinyl. Im really interested! Thanks in advance…

  4. Did I not here the Djembe drums and bells in the score Chandra played in episode 3 with the attack on Billy Crow in Bass Reeves Lawman?
